Emergency Management

Council’s role in emergency preparedness and recovery is critical and it has certainly worked hard on these over the past 4 years. It has a key role in contributing local knowledge to responders during an emergency and many of its staff work tirelessly to help their communities during any ‘events’. What things should be celebrated about how well Council performs its emergency management role? What things would you like to see done better?

During the recovery from the 2019/2020 bushfires, it was so helpful having dedicated staff to do so much of the administration of the communities plans. There were so many events outside of office hours that these tireless people made themselves avialable time and again.

On the flip side, I was confused as to why the council didn’t, as a matter of top priority, create a list of properties lost to the fires, as soon as possible. this list could have saved SO much drama and frustration, and would have facilitated a much smoother rebuilding recovery.

That’s interesting Kathleen and something worth following up on. Thank you. I’ve heard that many Council staff worked tirelessly and went way above and beyond what might be expected during and after the events. I wonder if they were ever recognised for their efforts.
